This is one part of WooCommerce that is a bit wonky. If you require customers to be logged in, then when they go to checkout, they get a message “If you have shopped with us before, please enter your details below. If you are a new customer, please proceed to the Billing section.”
But they cannot proceed to the billing section. There should actually be text that says instead, “Please create an account” with a link to My Account or some form to create an account.
The wording can be changed and a link added, but it’s still very awkward.
When they get the message “If you are a new customer, please proceed to the Billing section.”, at the bottom of the billing form they must enter their account details for creating an account. I agree that it is not very “friendly”, however capturing the email address before they create an account is a good thing in case you have abandoned cart email sequences for example.
Other than that, I believe the WooCommerce Checkout page, by looking at the number of custom checkout plugins, is definitely the biggest weakness (and it’s the most important page for an ecommerce website!) of the WooCommerce plugin.
