WooCommerce: See What’s Inside the Cart Array (print_r)

So many times I needed to “play” with Cart contents in order to modify the default behaviour (such as removing a columns, hide the sale price to prices, hide an item, etc.).

There is a great PHP function that always helps – it’s called print_r and you can use this to “see” what’s inside the cart array, so that you can return certain information in a message for example.

WooCommerce: Hide Hidden Products From Cart, Order, Emails

While working on a workaround for a client, I had to hide a hidden product from the cart, checkout, order received and emails. Hidden products already don’t show on the shop and category pages, but they do show on the cart if they’re added to cart “programmatically”.

A tough task, but as usual here I come with the solution 🙂

WooCommerce: Display Total Weight @ Cart & Checkout

Following up from the other day’s snippet (deny checkout based on cart weight), you might want to show what is the current Total Weight on the cart and checkout page in case this is useful to your customers.

Of course, in order for this snippet to work, all your products must have a weight, otherwise the total will always be equal to 0. So here you go – enjoy!

WooCommerce: Deny Checkout Based on Cart Weight

A WooCommerce fan asked me: “How do you deny checkout if the cart weight is above a certain threshold?“.

Well, this is straight forward thanks to a WooCommerce core function called “cart_contents_weight” which allows you to get the total weight of your cart, and then the “wc_add_notice” function which shows a notification error.

WooCommerce: Display Regular & Sale Price @ Cart Table

In my opinion, the WooCommerce Cart table is somewhat confusing. Why isn’t the “sale price” displayed there? Well, this is a mystery!

I’m pretty confident that showing the “slashed” price would actually help your conversion rate.

WooCommerce: Move & Change Number of Cross-Sells @ Cart Page

This week’s snippet is about the Cart Page (perfect timing, as in a few days I will run a free class on “How to Customize the WooCommerce Cart Page“).

Today we’ll focus on the “You may be interested In…” section, also called the “Cross-Sells” area. If a product that is in the cart has cross-sells (Edit Product > Product Data > Linked Products), this section will appear by default. Problem is – it is pretty ugly where it is now and distracts the user from identifying the “Proceed to Checkout” button, the most important CTA (Call To Action) of the Cart page.

WooCommerce: Display Total Discount / Savings @ Cart & Checkout

WooCommerce: Hide Shipping Method If Shipping Class Is In The Cart

Our goal is to check if a Product with a specific Shipping Class is in the Cart, and consequently disabling a shipping rate such as Free Shipping if this is true.

WooCommerce Visual Hook Guide: Cart Page

You can find WooCommerce Cart hooks quickly and easily by seeing their actual locations. Great thing is – all you need to do in your functions.php is “add_action(‘place-hook-here’,’your-PHP-function-here’);” and you can place your custom functions anywhere on the WooCommerce Cart Page. Enjoy!

WooCommerce: Add Checkout Fee for a Payment Gateway (e.g. PayPal)

Here’s a simple PHP snippet to add a fee to the checkout for every payment or for a specific payment gateway.

Please do remember that for certain payment gateways such as PayPal, adding checkout fees is currently against their Terms of Service so make sure to check this first.

As usual, this needs to be copied and pasted in your child theme’s functions.php file. Enjoy!

WooCommerce: Only Allow 1 Product in the Cart

Here’s how to limit your WooCommerce Cart to just one product at a time.

This simple solution can be used for many applications. For example, your store may only allow to buy one subscription at a time.

On this same website, for example, customers can only purchase one product at a time so it’s easier for me to manage invoicing and payments, given that I switch PayPal and Stripe accounts based on what’s inside the cart.

Here’s the quick fix – enjoy!

WooCommerce: Hide Coupon Code @ Cart & Checkout Page

When you apply a coupon code programmatically, for example, you may want to hide the coupon code on the cart and checkout page so that the code stays private and cannot be shared with others.

This solution will basically remove the coupon code (e.g. “VWXYZ”) from the “Coupon: VWXYZ” string that appears in the Cart and Checkout totals. Enjoy!

WooCommerce: Apply Coupon Programmatically if Product @ Cart

Users can manually enter a coupon code, refresh the Cart and see their discount apply… or you can do that automatically (or “programmatically” as we say in the dark web) when a user adds a product to the WooCommerce Cart 🙂

All you’ve got to do is creating a coupon, and then a PHP function will do the whole work. Automation is the best thing in the world!

WooCommerce: Remove Shipping Labels @ Cart (e.g. “Flat Rate”)

WooCommerce functions add the shipping method label on the Cart totals, on the left hand side of the price. This ruins the price amounts alignment (subtotal, shipping, taxes, total) and many clients have asked me to remove it completely. Also, it could be that sometimes you don’t want to show the name of a shipping rate on the front-end. So, here’s how you do it!

WooCommerce: Translate “Shipping” @ Cart Totals

The cart totals table cell title “Shipping” or “Shipping and Handling” appears also on the checkout page. So, what if you wish to “translate” this string from English to “better” English or completely customize it? Thankfully there’s a quick 4 lines snippet for you. Enjoy!

WooCommerce: How to Fix the “Cart is Empty” Issue

For some reason, sometimes you add products to cart but the cart page stays empty (even if you can clearly see the cart widget has products in it for example).

But don’t worry – it may just be a simple cache issue (and if you don’t know what cache is that’s no problem either) or a theme / plugin “conflict”.

The WooCommerce Cart page is extremely delicate; it displays dynamic content based on cookies and PHP sessions, is coded with PHP but also JS and Ajax, requires to be excluded from cache and is subject to problems in case of out of date software.

So, here’s your “Empty Cart” troubleshooting checklist you can follow without any technical knowledge.
